For selected TITTIMITTI® products, particularly our 98% organic cotton hosiery, we work with Bolero Socks, a specialist socks, hosiery and underwear manufacturer in Arnavutköy, Istanbul, Turkey.

Bolero's manufacturing address is Haraççı Mah. Dolmabahçe Cd. No:12, Arnavutköy, Istanbul, Turkey. Its manufacturing focus is directly relevant to TITTIMITTI®: socks and hosiery are core product categories rather than a small part of a general apparel operation.

Specialized Sock Manufacturing at Scale

Bolero reports production capability exceeding 25 million pairs of socks for export and exports to more than 30 countries.

Its sock production includes more than 120 double-cylinder machines and more than 75 computerized machines, totaling approximately 200 sock-knitting machines according to the manufacturer's published production information.

But knitting is only one part of making a finished sock.

Bolero describes an integrated production process that includes:

design and product development
knitting
toe sewing
washing and steam finishing
quality control
labeling and packaging

The manufacturer also describes multiple methods of toe construction, including hand linking, Rosso sewing and automated methods.

For TITTIMITTI®, this manufacturing specialization matters because an everyday sock designed around a very high percentage of cotton has different construction requirements from a fine Italian dress sock or a knitted cashmere accessory.

Why TITTIMITTI® Uses 98% Organic Cotton + 2% Elastane

Some TITTIMITTI® products manufactured in Turkey use a deliberately straightforward composition:

98% Organic Cotton
2% Elastane

We disclose both.

The objective of these products is to retain an unusually high cotton content while using a small amount of elastane where stretch and recovery are important to the intended construction.

The 2% elastane is therefore not something we hide behind the phrase “organic cotton socks.” It is part of the product specification.

This also illustrates why TITTIMITTI® does not require every sock to have exactly the same composition.

Some of our Italian products are made from 100% cotton or 100% organic cotton. Other products are intentionally constructed with a small percentage of elastane.

The material should fit the product — not the other way around.

For these Turkish-made styles, the design objective is straightforward: very high organic-cotton content combined with the stretch required for practical everyday hosiery.

Made in Turkey — and Identified as Such

We believe manufacturing origin should be disclosed clearly.

Applicable TITTIMITTI® 98% organic cotton products in this program are Made in Turkey by Bolero Socks.

We do not describe these products as Italian-made simply because other TITTIMITTI® hosiery is manufactured in Italy.

Likewise, we do not believe that being manufactured in Turkey makes these products secondary to our Italian collection. They serve a different purpose within the TITTIMITTI® assortment and are produced by a manufacturer specializing specifically in socks and hosiery.

This is part of the broader TITTIMITTI® sourcing philosophy:

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 — Bolero Certification History

Bolero publicly identifies separate OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification programs for socks/tights and underwear. Its certificate section specifically identifies “Oeko-Tex Socks and Tight Class 1.”

We were also able to recover the underlying certificate for the Bolero manufacturing operation:

The certificate's scope expressly included socks, hosiery and tights, including cotton and cotton-containing constructions, along with several other specified fibers and blends.

The recovered certificate was issued under the requirements applicable at that time and was valid through December 31, 2024.

That date matters.

We can use this certificate as documented evidence of Bolero's OEKO-TEX certification history and the certified manufacturing scope it covered. We should not present that particular 2024 certificate as a currently valid 2026 certificate unless the current certificate is independently verified.

Bolero's current website continues to identify OEKO-TEX certification for its socks and tights, but TITTIMITTI® distinguishes the manufacturer's certification status from certification claims applying to an individual TITTIMITTI® product.

Organic and Responsible-Material Programs

Bolero's current certification section also identifies participation in several textile certification and compliance programs, including:

These credentials demonstrate the range of certification systems within which the manufacturer operates.

However, a certification held by Bolero does not automatically certify every TITTIMITTI® product manufactured there.

For example, an RWS credential is relevant to a manufacturer's ability to handle applicable certified wool programs. It does not make a TITTIMITTI® organic cotton sock RWS-certified.

Likewise, a GRS credential covering applicable recycled-material production does not make a 98% organic cotton TITTIMITTI® product GRS-certified.

We therefore separate manufacturer credentials from product-specific certification.

Organic Cotton — Material Traceability Matters

The same principle applies to the word organic.

Bolero has documented experience manufacturing organic-cotton hosiery for international customers. Independent supply-chain reporting from another European customer identifies Bolero as its Turkish sock manufacturer and separately identifies the yarn used in that program as GOTS-certified organic cotton, including the Turkish spinning and yarn-dyeing stages.

That evidence is useful because it independently confirms Bolero's experience manufacturing socks within a documented organic-cotton supply chain.

But it is not TITTIMITTI's Transaction Certificate.

We therefore do not use another customer's GOTS documentation to claim that a TITTIMITTI® finished product is GOTS certified.

From Yarn to Finished Sock

Bolero states that its quality-control process begins with the yarn, rather than only inspecting the finished packaged product. Its manufacturing sequence then continues through knitting, toe construction, washing/steam finishing, quality control and packaging.

That is relevant to the way TITTIMITTI® thinks about hosiery.

A percentage printed on a label is important, but composition alone does not make the finished product.

A 98% cotton sock still has to be knitted correctly. It needs an appropriate construction for its intended use. The toe needs to be finished. The product needs to retain an appropriate fit. And the completed production needs to be inspected.

For these products, 98% organic cotton defines the material direction; specialized hosiery manufacturing turns that material specification into the finished sock.

Manufacturing and Energy

Bolero reports that its Istanbul production facility uses 1,407 rooftop solar panels covering approximately 3,146 square meters.

According to the manufacturer, the installation generates approximately 1,000,000 kWh annually and supplies approximately 47% of the factory's annual electricity consumption.

We include this as information about the manufacturing operation rather than using it to label an individual TITTIMITTI® product as “sustainable.”

Environmental characteristics of a factory and environmental claims about a finished consumer product are not necessarily the same thing.

What the Bolero Certifications Mean

As with our Italian supply-chain documentation, we believe precision matters more than accumulating certification logos.

There are several separate questions:

Is the manufacturer certified under a standard?

What facility and manufacturing processes are included in the certificate's scope?

What materials or product categories are covered?

Was the certificate valid when the relevant production occurred?

Is there documentation connecting the certification to the particular TITTIMITTI® material or product?

Those questions should not be collapsed into one broad statement such as “all TITTIMITTI® products are certified.”

Where we have product-specific evidence, we can state the applicable certification.

Where the evidence establishes only a manufacturer's certification or manufacturing capability, we identify it at that level.

Why We Work With a Specialist Turkish Hosiery Manufacturer

TITTIMITTI® does not use “Made in Turkey” as a substitute for information about the product.

For the applicable TITTIMITTI® hosiery program, the relevant combination is:

The result occupies a deliberate place alongside our Italian hosiery rather than attempting to imitate it.

Our Italian and Turkish socks do not need to be identical to represent the same TITTIMITTI® philosophy.

Different materials. Different constructions. Different manufacturing expertise. The same requirement for transparency about what the customer is buying.

Made in Sri Lanka — Eskimo Fashion Knitwear

For selected TITTIMITTI® wool, cashmere and knitted products, we work with Eskimo Fashion Knitwear (Private) Limited, a specialist knitwear manufacturer based in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

Eskimo's current registered manufacturing address is 44/16, Baseline Road, Kadirana North, Negombo, Sri Lanka. The same company and address are independently listed by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association.

What makes this relationship particularly relevant to TITTIMITTI® is that Eskimo's expertise did not begin as a general apparel operation. Its manufacturing heritage begins specifically with knitted gloves and socks.

A Knitwear Heritage Beginning in Germany in 1870

Eskimo traces its history to 1870, when the Merkel family established a family business in Germany producing knitted gloves and socks.

Over subsequent generations, the business developed its core competence in knitwear, initially manufacturing in Europe before production expanded into Asia. Eskimo Fashion Knitwear (Private) Limited was incorporated in Sri Lanka in 1982 for the manufacture and international marketing of knitwear.

This history is independently corroborated by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, which places the original operation near Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany, and likewise identifies its original products as knitted gloves and socks.

That history is especially relevant to TITTIMITTI® because products such as mittens, gloves, socks and other knitted accessories are not later additions to an unrelated manufacturer's product catalog. They belong to the manufacturing discipline from which Eskimo developed.

The location of manufacturing has changed over generations.

The specialization in knitwear has remained.

European Knitwear Experience, Sri Lankan Manufacturing

Eskimo describes the heritage of its former German parent, Eskimo Strickwaren GmbH, as being rooted in European entrepreneurship, management, technical knowledge and marketing expertise.

The modern manufacturing operation, however, is in Sri Lanka.

We believe that distinction should be clear.

TITTIMITTI® products manufactured by Eskimo are Made in Sri Lanka. We do not describe them as German-made because of the manufacturer's German heritage.

Instead, the complete provenance is more informative:

German knitwear origins dating to 1870. Decades of specialization in knitted gloves, socks and accessories. Modern manufacturing in Sri Lanka.

In 2025, Eskimo Fashion Knitwear entered another stage in its history when it was acquired by Carlo Holdings. Eskimo states that the company continues to operate as a manufacturer of winter accessories while developing its manufacturing operation under the new ownership.

Specialized Hosiery, Glove and Flat-Knitting Production

Today, Eskimo operates three manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka: Negombo, Pallekele and Punanai.

The Negombo operation is particularly relevant to TITTIMITTI® because it contains dedicated equipment for the exact categories of knitted products represented in our assortment.

Eskimo currently reports:

112 hosiery knitting machines
with reported annual output capacity of approximately 3,062,500 pieces

95 flat-knitting machines
with reported annual output capacity of approximately 4,501,600 pieces

70 glove-knitting machines
with reported annual output capacity of approximately 300,000 pieces

211 sewing machines
with reported annual output capacity of approximately 960,000 pieces

at its Negombo facility.

This is one reason TITTIMITTI® considers the actual specialization of a manufacturing partner rather than looking only at the country printed on the label.

A cashmere mitten is a different product from an organic-cotton sock. A wool tight is different from both. The material, knitting equipment, construction and manufacturing knowledge required for each product are not identical.

Different products require different expertise.

From Knitting to the Finished Accessory

Eskimo's production capabilities extend beyond the knitting machine.

Its published manufacturing information describes sample and prototype development, sewing, linking and finishing capabilities, with specialized machinery for different knitted and sewn constructions. The company specifically lists linking equipment for knitted caps and shawls as well as hand work, looping, embroidery and other finishing processes.

For TITTIMITTI®, this matters because the finished quality of a knitted accessory is determined by more than the fiber composition printed on its label.

Cashmere can be an exceptional material, but simply using cashmere does not automatically produce an exceptional mitten, hat or neck warmer.

The yarn has to suit the product. The knitting construction has to work with that yarn. Shaping and finishing have to be appropriate. And the manufacturer has to understand the behavior of the material throughout production.

The fiber creates the possibility. Manufacturing determines what is made from it.

Independent Woolmark Recognition

Eskimo's specialization in wool-related knitwear is also independently documented by The Woolmark Company.

Woolmark identifies:

The Woolmark listing also records knitting capabilities at 12GG, 7GG, 5GG and 3GG and identifies export markets including Germany, Norway, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Australia.

This independent listing is useful because it corroborates the manufacturer's specialization outside Eskimo's own marketing material.

However, the distinction we established earlier still applies:

Eskimo being a Woolmark licensee does not automatically mean that every TITTIMITTI® wool or cashmere product manufactured by Eskimo is Woolmark certified.

Where a particular TITTIMITTI® product has verified product-specific certification, we identify that separately.

Wool, Cashmere and Natural-Fiber Winter Accessories

Eskimo's manufacturing capabilities make the relationship particularly relevant to TITTIMITTI® products built around wool and cashmere.

For applicable TITTIMITTI® products, we disclose the exact composition rather than allowing the manufacturer's broader expertise to substitute for product information.

A product labeled:

100% Cashmere

means something different from:

100% Virgin Wool

or:

75% Wool, 23% Polyamide, 2% Elastane.

Each composition has a different purpose and should be evaluated as the product it actually is.

Likewise, the fact that the manufacturer works with numerous fibers and certification programs does not change the composition of a particular TITTIMITTI® product.

The product label comes first. Manufacturer capability provides the context behind it.

Certification and Accreditation — Manufacturer vs. Product

Eskimo has publicly documented participation in a number of international textile, environmental and responsible-material programs.

Published information about the manufacturer has identified standards and programs including:

For TITTIMITTI®, however, the existence of a certification within a manufacturer's operation is not enough by itself to place that certification on every product manufactured there.

We therefore make the same distinction for Sri Lanka that we make for Italy and Turkey:

Manufacturer certification is not automatically finished-product certification.

A manufacturer's GOTS capability does not automatically make a cashmere mitten GOTS certified.

An RWS manufacturing program does not automatically establish that a particular wool product contains RWS-certified wool.

And Eskimo's status as a Woolmark licensee does not automatically make every TITTIMITTI® product manufactured there a Woolmark-certified finished product.

Where TITTIMITTI® has product-specific evidence, we can make the applicable claim at the product level.

OEKO-TEX® and Applicable TITTIMITTI® Products

This distinction becomes particularly useful with products such as our wool hosiery.

Where an existing TITTIMITTI® product has separately verified documentation supporting the statement “Produced according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100,” that information belongs on the applicable product page.

That product-specific statement is different from simply saying that Eskimo participates in OEKO-TEX certification programs.

This is the level of precision we want throughout the TITTIMITTI® catalog:

A Manufacturer With Experience Beyond TITTIMITTI®

Eskimo publicly identifies manufacturing relationships with numerous international apparel and children's-wear companies.

Its current customer/brand page includes companies such as Reima, C&A, Lindex, Steiff, Next, Petit Bateau and Decathlon, among others.

We include this information only as evidence of the manufacturer's established international production experience.

Those companies do not manufacture, endorse or certify TITTIMITTI® products, and their relationship with Eskimo is independent of TITTIMITTI®.

For us, the relevant point is simpler: TITTIMITTI® selected a manufacturer with established experience producing knitted products for international markets rather than an unidentified general-purpose supplier.

Manufacturing, Dyeing and Technical Capability

Eskimo's manufacturing infrastructure also includes technical processes surrounding knitting and finished-product production.

Its published facilities information describes production capabilities extending through knitting, sewing, cutting and finishing, while its environmental information identifies a dye house at the Negombo factory.

This is another reason we avoid treating words such as “natural,” “undyed,” “organic” or “cashmere” as interchangeable marketing terms.

If a TITTIMITTI® product is undyed, that characteristic should be established for that product.

If it is dyed, we should not imply otherwise merely because other products in our assortment are undyed.

Transparency belongs to the individual product.

Manufacturing and Energy

Eskimo reports the use of biomass-generated steam at its Negombo facility, particularly for the dye house and steam tables, together with electricity and backup diesel systems.

The company also reports development of a 1.5 MW rooftop solar-energy project beginning in 2020 at the Negombo operation.

As with the Bolero section, we treat this as information about the manufacturer's operation.

We do not use a factory's energy program by itself to describe an individual TITTIMITTI® product as “sustainable,” “green” or “eco-friendly.”

Those are broader product claims requiring their own substantiation.

How We Document Materials, Certifications & Traceability

TITTIMITTI® believes traceability is most useful when documentation is described according to what it actually proves.

Textile supply chains can involve several different organizations before a finished product reaches the customer: fiber producers, yarn manufacturers, dyeing and finishing operations, hosiery or knitwear manufacturers, certification bodies and the brand selling the finished product.

A certification connected with one stage of that chain does not automatically certify every other stage.

For that reason, TITTIMITTI® distinguishes between material and yarn certification, manufacturer certification, Scope Certificates, Transaction Certificates and finished-product certification rather than presenting them as if they were interchangeable.

Material and Yarn Documentation

The material is one of the first things we examine when developing or selecting a TITTIMITTI® product.

Depending on the product, this can include fibers and materials such as:

organic cotton
conventional cotton
mercerized cotton
wool
Merino wool
cashmere
silk
elastane
polyamide and other functional fibers where required by the construction

We disclose compositions according to the actual product.

This means a 100% organic cotton sock is described differently from a 98% organic cotton / 2% elastane sock, just as a 100% cashmere accessory is different from a wool-rich product containing additional fibers for its particular construction.

The presence of a certified material somewhere within a manufacturer's capabilities is not enough for TITTIMITTI® to apply that certification automatically to another material or product.

Where material or yarn documentation applies to a particular supply-chain transaction, we identify it at that level.

Scope Certificates

A Scope Certificate establishes that a particular organization has been assessed and certified for defined products, materials, processes or activities under the applicable certification standard during a stated period.

The scope matters.

A company can manufacture many different materials and products while only part of its operation falls within a particular certification.

The validity period also matters.

A Scope Certificate demonstrates certified capability during the period for which the certificate was valid. An older Scope Certificate can provide useful historical evidence about a supplier's certified operations, but it should not automatically be represented as proof of the supplier's current certification status after expiration.

This is why TITTIMITTI® does not treat a certification logo on a manufacturer's website as sufficient evidence by itself.

Where possible, we examine the company named on the certificate, manufacturing location, certification body, standard, license or certificate number, defined scope and validity period.

Transaction Certificates

A Transaction Certificate, often referred to as a TC, serves a different purpose.

Rather than simply establishing that an organization operates within a certified scope, a Transaction Certificate documents certified goods associated with a defined transaction through the supply chain.

This distinction is particularly important for our Italian organic-cotton production.

TITTIMITTI® maintains Transaction Certificates documenting certified 100% organic cotton yarn supplied by identified Italian yarn manufacturers directly to Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l., our Italian hosiery manufacturer, for applicable production.

Our documentation includes transactions from:

FILMAR S.p.A. → Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.

and

Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A. → Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.

These documents identify information such as the seller, buyer, certified material, certification standard, certification body, quantity and transaction-specific certificate number.

That gives us substantially more information than a general statement that a supplier “uses organic cotton.”

Why Transaction Certificates Change

A Transaction Certificate is connected with a particular certified transaction.

It is therefore normal for the certificate number, quantity, shipment information and other transaction-specific details to change when new certified material is purchased for subsequent production.

TITTIMITTI® does not expect one historical Transaction Certificate to represent every future production batch.

For applicable production, our approach is to maintain current supplier certification and transaction documentation as new production is manufactured.

TITTIMITTI® maintains current supplier certification and transaction documentation for applicable production batches. As new production batches are manufactured, our Italian hosiery manufacturer, Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l., provides updated documentation supporting the certified organic cotton yarn used in production.

This allows our documentation to develop together with the actual supply chain rather than relying indefinitely on a single certificate.

Manufacturer Certification

Manufacturer certification concerns the manufacturing organization, facility, process or defined production scope.

This information can be valuable when evaluating a manufacturing partner.

As described above, our manufacturing partners have participated in recognized textile, quality, environmental and responsible-material certification programs.

But the important distinction is:

A manufacturer's certification is not automatically a certification of every product manufactured inside that factory.

A manufacturer may be capable of producing products under several different certification programs while also manufacturing products outside those programs.

The certification must therefore be interpreted according to its actual scope.

This is why TITTIMITTI® identifies manufacturer credentials as manufacturer credentials rather than automatically transferring every certification held by a factory onto the TITTIMITTI® product made there.

Finished-Product Certification

Finished-product certification is different again.

When certification applies specifically to a finished TITTIMITTI® product and we have documentation supporting that statement, the certification can be identified with that applicable product.

Where that connection has not been established, we do not assume it merely because the yarn supplier or manufacturer participates in the certification program.

This distinction prevents several different statements from being incorrectly treated as equivalent:

“The manufacturer is certified.”

“The yarn is certified.”

“This transaction contains certified yarn.”

“The finished product is certified.”

Those statements can describe four different things.

For TITTIMITTI®, the wording should follow the evidence.

Certification Bodies and Independent Standards

TITTIMITTI® does not create the standards referenced in our supply-chain documentation.

Standards and certification systems are administered by independent organizations and certification bodies.

For example, the organic-cotton Transaction Certificates described in our Italian manufacturing section were issued under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) system by ICEA, an independent certification body.

Likewise, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is an independent testing and certification system, while The Woolmark Company operates Woolmark licensing and certification programs for wool.

Where we identify one of these organizations or standards, we do so to explain the documentation or manufacturer credential involved.

Their names do not imply endorsement of TITTIMITTI® unless such an endorsement has been expressly established.

Certification Is Evidence — Not the Entire Product

Certification is important to us, but it does not replace product development or manufacturing judgment.

A certificate can establish that defined requirements have been met within its particular scope.

It cannot decide:

which fiber is appropriate for a particular product
which yarn construction produces the desired result
whether a sock should contain elastane or remain 100% cotton
which knitting construction should be used
how a toe should be finished
how a cashmere accessory should be shaped
whether the finished product meets the quality expected by TITTIMITTI®

Those decisions require materials, technology and people to work together.

Certification supports our decisions. It does not make them.

Country of Manufacture Is Only One Part of Provenance

We also distinguish between fiber origin, yarn production and finished-product manufacturing.

These are not necessarily the same country.

Cotton can be grown in one country, spun or processed into yarn in another and knitted into the finished sock in another.

Likewise, a manufacturer's heritage can originate in one country while its present manufacturing takes place somewhere else.

That is why this page describes our products more precisely:

For applicable Italian hosiery, we identify Calzificio Piccinelli in Mazzano, Brescia, together with documented Italian yarn suppliers such as FILMAR and Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari.

Dyed, Undyed and Unbleached Materials

The same precision applies to material processing.

Organic describes how a fiber is produced according to an applicable organic standard. It does not automatically mean undyed or unbleached.

Likewise, an undyed material should not automatically be described as certified organic unless the applicable documentation establishes that separately.

TITTIMITTI® therefore treats these as distinct product characteristics.

Where a product is undyed and unbleached, we identify that characteristic specifically.

Where a product uses dyed yarn, we do not describe it as undyed simply because another product in the collection uses natural, uncolored cotton.

And where documentation relates to dyed yarn, we do not use that documentation as evidence for an undyed production batch unless the connection can be established independently.

This is particularly important because natural fibers can vary in appearance.

Undyed cotton, for example, does not necessarily have the bright, uniform appearance associated with conventionally processed white textiles. Natural cream, ivory or ecru variation can be part of the material itself rather than a manufacturing defect.

Organic cotton is one of the most important materials in the TITTIMITTI® hosiery collection.

Our assortment includes different organic-cotton constructions rather than one universal version of an “organic cotton sock.”

Depending on the product, customers can find:

98% organic cotton / 2% elastane socks designed to maintain a very high cotton content while incorporating a small amount of stretch.

Organic mercerized cotton socks where organic cotton is combined with additional yarn processing to create a different appearance and feel.

For customers specifically looking for cotton closer to its natural coloration, TITTIMITTI® offers undyed and unbleached organic cotton socks in applicable styles.

These products are intentionally different from conventional bright-white cotton hosiery.

Without conventional bleaching and color dyeing used to create a standardized textile color, the cotton can retain natural cream, ivory, ecru or related shades.

Natural variation is therefore part of understanding this material.

“Undyed” and “unbleached” also describe particular processing characteristics. They do not replace the composition.

For applicable TITTIMITTI® styles, 100% cotton means exactly that: the declared fiber composition is 100% cotton.

Where the product uses organic cotton, we identify it as 100% organic cotton.

Wool and Merino Wool
