A product included in this collection is identified as having been manufactured in Italy.

Country of manufacture and fiber origin are separate facts. A product can be made in Italy using yarn or raw fiber sourced from Italy or another country. When TITTIMITTI® has documented information about an applicable yarn manufacturer or supply chain, we identify it separately.

We do not use “Italian” as a substitute for the complete product description. Customers should also know:

  • What the product is made from

  • The exact fiber percentages

  • Whether the cotton is organic

  • Whether the cotton is undyed or bleached

  • Whether another fiber is included for stretch or durability

  • How the product is constructed

  • How it should be washed and dried

Organic Cotton Socks Made in Italy

Organic cotton is one of the principal materials in the TITTIMITTI® Made in Italy sock collection.

Different organic-cotton products use different constructions:

  • 100% organic cotton means the declared knitted sock fabric is entirely organic cotton.

  • 98% organic cotton with 2% elastane uses a small amount of stretch fiber to improve elasticity and recovery.

  • Organic combed cotton has undergone a combing process that removes shorter fibers and aligns the remaining cotton fibers.

  • Organic mercerized cotton has undergone a separate finishing process that changes characteristics such as smoothness, strength, luster and dye affinity.

  • Undyed and unbleached organic cotton retains cotton’s natural warm color without added textile dye or conventional optical whitening.

Undyed and Unbleached Italian-Made Socks

Selected women’s, men’s and children’s socks are made in Italy from 100% organic combed cotton in its natural, undyed and unbleached color.

Their warm white, cream or ecru appearance comes from the cotton itself rather than from an added textile color.

Natural shade variation can occur between production batches. This is a normal characteristic of undyed cotton and should not be considered a defect.

Fine Mercerized Cotton and Filo di Scozia

Selected Italian-made socks use fine mercerized cotton associated with the Filo di Scozia hosiery tradition.

Mercerization is a textile process that changes certain characteristics of cotton, including smoothness, strength, regularity, luster and dye affinity.

Fine mercerized cotton can produce a lighter and more refined sock suitable for:

“Made in Italy” identifies manufacturing origin. It does not, by itself, identify fiber composition.

Two Italian-made socks can have very different constructions:

  • 100% organic cotton

Are all products made from 100% natural fibers?

Are all products GOTS certified?

No. Applicable GOTS documentation supports specific organic-cotton yarn transactions and supply-chain stages. It should not be generalized to every product or to TITTIMITTI® as an entire brand.

What is the difference between combed and mercerized cotton?
