Materials, Manufacturing & Traceability
TITTIMITTI® products begin with the material.
We believe the quality of a finished product depends on more than a fiber name, a country-of-origin label or a certification logo. It depends on the material selected, the yarn, the construction, the manufacturing equipment, the people operating it and the experience behind the manufacturer.
That is why TITTIMITTI® works with specialized manufacturers selected according to the requirements of different products and materials.
Our TITTIMITTI® products are manufactured by specialist partners in Italy, Turkey and Sri Lanka. Each manufacturing relationship brings different expertise to the collection — from Italian hosiery and fine cotton yarns, to high-cotton-content everyday hosiery in Turkey, to wool, cashmere and knitted winter accessories produced by an established specialist knitwear manufacturer in Sri Lanka.
We believe customers should be able to understand what a product is made from, where it is made, who makes it and what available documentation supports the materials and manufacturing behind it.
Different Products Require Different Expertise
We do not believe one factory, one fiber or one construction is automatically the right choice for every product.
A 100% organic cotton Italian dress sock requires different materials and construction decisions from a 98% organic cotton everyday sock designed with a small amount of elastane for stretch. A fine wool or cashmere mitten requires different manufacturing expertise from either of them.
For this reason, TITTIMITTI® selects manufacturing partners according to their relevant capabilities and the requirements of the product.
In Mazzano, Brescia, Italy, Calzificio Piccinelli brings a family hosiery tradition dating to 1970, with experience manufacturing socks in cotton, wool and other fibers and a history of continued investment in materials and hosiery technology.
In Istanbul, Turkey, Bolero specializes in socks, hosiery and related products. The manufacturer reports capacity exceeding 25 million pairs of socks for export, exports to more than 30 countries, and operates extensive dedicated sock-knitting equipment.
In Negombo, Sri Lanka, Eskimo Fashion Knitwear manufactures knitted accessories and hosiery. Its heritage traces to a family business established in Germany in 1870 to produce knitted gloves and socks, while Eskimo Fashion Knitwear was established in Sri Lanka in 1982. Today its Sri Lankan operations include dedicated hosiery, flat-knitting and glove-knitting equipment.
Material First. Manufacturer Second. Evidence Behind Both.
Our approach is not to select a manufacturer simply because of a country name.
We look at the relationship between the fiber, yarn, product construction and manufacturing expertise required for the finished product.
For applicable Italian organic-cotton production, for example, TITTIMITTI® maintains supply-chain documentation connecting certified organic cotton yarn suppliers with our Italian hosiery manufacturer. For products made elsewhere, we identify the actual country of manufacture and distinguish manufacturer certifications from certifications that apply specifically to a material, shipment or finished product.
This distinction matters.
A manufacturer may operate under recognized certification programs without every product produced in that facility automatically carrying every certification held by the manufacturer. Likewise, a certified yarn does not automatically make the finished TITTIMITTI® product itself certified under the same standard.
Throughout this page, we therefore distinguish between:
Material or yarn certification — certification applying to a particular fiber, yarn or material.
Manufacturer certification — certification or accreditation applying to a manufacturing operation or defined production scope.
Transaction documentation — documentation supporting certified material moving through a specific supply-chain transaction.
Finished-product certification — certification that specifically applies to the finished product where such certification has been established.
Transparency Before Marketing
We would rather describe a product precisely than hide important details behind broad terms such as “premium,” “natural” or “sustainable.”
If a sock is made from 100% organic cotton, we say so.
If another product contains 98% organic cotton and 2% elastane, we disclose both fibers and explain why the elastane is part of that construction.
If a product is manufactured in Italy, Turkey or Sri Lanka, we identify its actual manufacturing origin rather than allowing the broader TITTIMITTI® story to imply that every product is made in the same country.
And when certification documentation applies only to a yarn, supplier, manufacturer or particular production scope, we identify that distinction rather than presenting it as a certification of the entire TITTIMITTI® brand.
Certification can verify a defined standard. It cannot manufacture excellence.
For TITTIMITTI®, certification and traceability support the decisions behind a product. The finished product still has to earn the TITTIMITTI® name through its material, construction, comfort, manufacturing and quality.
Understand the material. Know the source. Choose deliberately. Make the finished product worthy of the TITTIMITTI® name.
Made in Italy — Calzificio Piccinelli, Brescia
A significant part of the TITTIMITTI® hosiery collection is manufactured in Mazzano, in the province of Brescia, Italy, by Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l., an Italian family hosiery manufacturer whose history began in 1970.
Calzificio Piccinelli was founded by Antonio Piccinelli. During the 1980s, the founder's sons joined the business and developed the experience needed to take responsibility for the family company. Piccinelli states that since the 1990s it has distinguished itself through the production of hosiery in wool, cotton and other fibers, supported by continued research into materials, styling, technology and modern hosiery machinery.
For TITTIMITTI®, this relationship is about more than placing an order with an anonymous factory.
From Product Idea to Finished TITTIMITTI® Sock
TITTIMITTI® establishes the material direction, product concept and requirements for the products we develop with Piccinelli.
Material and yarn options are discussed with the manufacturer. TITTIMITTI® approves the selected material for the applicable production, and Calzificio Piccinelli purchases the approved yarn for manufacturing and produces the finished hosiery in Italy.
This collaboration combines two different responsibilities:
TITTIMITTI® defines the product direction, material priorities and requirements.
Calzificio Piccinelli contributes its specialized knowledge of hosiery construction, knitting and manufacturing developed through decades of Italian sock production.
The manufacturer is not hidden from the customer. Calzificio Piccinelli is identified as the manufacturer on the physical labeling of applicable TITTIMITTI® products.
This matters to us because provenance should describe the actual supply chain behind a product rather than simply placing the words “Made in Italy” on a product page.
Italian Hosiery Expertise Since 1970
Piccinelli's manufacturing history is especially relevant to TITTIMITTI® because the company specializes specifically in hosiery.
The company describes continuous investment in technological research, new materials and modern machinery as part of its development. Its production experience covers cotton, wool and other fibers and ranges from broad-market hosiery to specialized niche products.
For TITTIMITTI®, modern hosiery machinery is important — but machinery alone does not determine the quality of a sock.
The yarn has to be appropriate for the intended product. Knitting and construction decisions have to match the material. Manufacturing parameters have to be selected correctly. And the people developing and producing the product need to understand how those variables interact.
The machine provides capability. The people determine how that capability is used.
That combination of material, technology and manufacturing experience is one of the reasons TITTIMITTI® works with a specialist Italian hosiery manufacturer.
The Yarn Behind the Sock
For applicable TITTIMITTI® organic-cotton production, our traceability does not stop at the sock manufacturer.
Our supply-chain documentation identifies established Italian yarn producers supplying certified organic cotton yarn directly to Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.
These include FILMAR S.p.A. and Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A.
This distinction is important.
The cotton fiber itself does not have to be grown in Italy for a product to benefit from Italian yarn and hosiery expertise. Fiber origin, yarn production and finished-product manufacturing are different stages of the textile supply chain, and we believe they should be described separately.
Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari — More Than a Century of Italian Yarn Production
One of the documented yarn suppliers to Calzificio Piccinelli is Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A.
The company's history combines two established Italian cotton-spinning businesses.
Cotonificio Olcese was founded in Piancogno in 1904, while Cotonificio Ferrari was established in the province of Brescia in 1919. The businesses came together in 2017 to form today's Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari.
Today the company reports approximately 50,000 spindles in Italy, production of approximately 100 million kilometers of yarn per year, and more than 800 yarn articles. Its yarns are produced for several textile sectors, including specifically calzetteria — hosiery.
That hosiery connection is important to TITTIMITTI®. We are not simply identifying a large textile company; we are documenting a yarn producer whose products are specifically developed for applications that include socks and hosiery.
Olcese Ferrari's hosiery catalog includes natural fibers, organic cotton and specialized cotton yarns, as well as mercerized constructions.
Italian Fine-Cotton and Mercerized-Yarn Expertise
Italian cotton hosiery is not defined by a single type of cotton.
Different TITTIMITTI® products can use different yarn constructions depending on the intended feel, appearance and performance of the finished sock.
Olcese Ferrari's hosiery program, for example, includes Filoscozia®, a protected quality-yarn tradition dating to 1982 and based on selected long-staple cotton. The company also produces gas-singed and mercerized cotton yarns specifically suitable for hosiery applications.
Its Tresero yarn, for example, is identified by Olcese Ferrari as 100% Makò cotton, gas-singed and mercerized, with hosiery listed among its recommended applications.
This helps explain an important principle behind the TITTIMITTI® collection:
Two socks can both be described as cotton socks and still be very different products.
Combed cotton, organic cotton, mercerized cotton and fine hosiery yarns are not interchangeable descriptions. The material and processing should fit the purpose of the particular sock.
Documented Organic Cotton Supply to Piccinelli
For applicable production, TITTIMITTI® maintains documentation supporting the movement of certified organic cotton yarn through the supply chain to Calzificio Piccinelli.
One of those documented relationships is:
Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A. → Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.
Our documentation includes a Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) Transaction Certificate covering certified 100% organic cotton yarn supplied by Olcese Ferrari to Piccinelli.
Transaction Certificate: ICA-TC-GOTS-2025-225126-2519
GOTS License: GOTS-10421
Certification Body: ICEA
Seller: Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A.
Buyer: Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.
Material: 100% Organic Cotton
GOTS Label Grade: Organic
Documented Quantity: 256.59 kg
Olcese Ferrari publicly identifies GOTS among its certification programs and offers organic-cotton yarns within its production portfolio.
FILMAR — Documented Organic Cotton Yarn Supply
TITTIMITTI® documentation also records certified organic cotton yarn supplied by FILMAR S.p.A. directly to Calzificio Piccinelli.
The applicable documentation includes:
Transaction Certificate: ICA-TC-GOTS-2025-209215-5861
GOTS License: GOTS-10380
Certification Body: ICEA
Seller: FILMAR S.p.A.
Buyer: Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l.
Material: 100% Organic Cotton
GOTS Label Grade: Organic
Documented Quantity: 199.35 kg
This provides another documented connection between a named Italian yarn supplier and the Italian hosiery manufacturer producing applicable TITTIMITTI® products.
What These Certificates Mean — and What They Do Not Mean
We think this distinction is important enough to state directly.
A GOTS Scope Certificate establishes certification for a defined company, operation and scope during its period of validity.
A GOTS Transaction Certificate documents certified goods involved in a particular commercial transaction.
Our Transaction Certificates identify FILMAR S.p.A. or Cotonificio Olcese Ferrari S.p.A. as the seller and Calzificio Piccinelli S.r.l. as the buyer of the documented certified organic cotton yarn.
That is valuable supply-chain evidence.
It does not, by itself, mean that every product manufactured by Piccinelli is GOTS certified, nor does it mean that the TITTIMITTI® brand itself is GOTS certified.
We therefore do not use these documents to make that broader claim.
Instead, we use them for what they actually establish: documented certified organic cotton yarn moving from identified yarn suppliers to our identified Italian hosiery manufacturer for applicable production.
Dyed and Undyed Cotton — Another Important Distinction
Traceability also requires attention to the exact material documented.
The FILMAR and Olcese Ferrari Transaction Certificates described above document dyed organic cotton yarn.
We therefore do not use those particular Transaction Certificates as proof that a specific TITTIMITTI® undyed product was made from the yarn covered by those transactions.
Separate scope documentation has shown certified capability for undyed organic-cotton yarn within parts of the supply chain, but capability and a specific production transaction are not the same thing.
When TITTIMITTI® receives updated documentation for new applicable production batches, we maintain those records as part of our continuing supplier documentation.
We would rather preserve that distinction than turn a real certificate into a broader claim than the document supports.
Why This Matters to TITTIMITTI®
Certification is useful because it can document defined characteristics and stages of a textile supply chain.
But certification is only one part of our product decision.
For our Italian hosiery, we look at the combination of:
fiber and composition
yarn selection
yarn producer
hosiery construction
manufacturing experience
Italian production
available certification and transaction documentation
the quality of the finished product
A certificate cannot choose the right yarn for a particular sock. It cannot determine whether a construction feels right on the foot. It cannot replace decades of manufacturing experience.
Certification supports our decisions. It does not make them.
For applicable TITTIMITTI® Made-in-Italy products, the objective is to combine documented materials with Italian yarn expertise, specialized hosiery manufacturing and transparent product information.
Fine material. Italian yarn expertise. Italian hosiery engineering. Italian craftsmanship. Made in Italy.
